What is the difference between a Periodontist and a General Dentist?

A Periodontist has advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases, while a General Dentist provides routine dental care and may not have the same level of expertise in periodontal treatment.

Do I need a referral from my General Dentist to see a Periodontist?

While a referral is not always necessary, it's recommended that you see a Periodontist if your General Dentist recommends it. A Periodontist can also be seen directly for a consultation.

What should I look for when choosing a Periodontist?

Look for a Periodontist who is certified, has a good reputation, and is experienced in the treatments you need. Check online reviews and ask for referrals from friends or family members.
