What should I ask during a first appointment?

Ask about the dentist’s experience with the specific procedure you need, the typical cost range, any recommended preventive steps, and how they handle emergencies. Inquire about the office’s sterilization practices, appointment scheduling flexibility, and whether they provide clear explanations of treatment plans.

How do I verify a dentist’s credentials?

Check the California Dental Association or state licensing board for current licensure and any disciplinary records. Look for board certifications in specialties if needed. Many dentists display their credentials on their website or office wall; you can also ask for proof during a visit.

What are typical appointment times for routine cleaning?

A routine cleaning usually takes 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the patient’s history and any additional exams. Some offices offer quick 20‑minute visits for basic cleanings, but a comprehensive exam with x‑rays and discussion often extends the appointment to an hour.
