What should I look for in a dentist’s online reviews?

Focus on comments about the dentist’s professionalism, communication, and the overall experience of the staff. Consistent praise for thorough explanations and gentle treatment is a good sign, while repeated complaints about rushed appointments or billing issues should be noted. Use the reviews to gauge how the practice handles patient concerns.

How can I verify a dentist’s credentials and specialties?

Visit the California Dental Board’s website to confirm the dentist’s license status and any disciplinary history. For specialists, check for board certification in the relevant field, such as orthodontics or oral surgery. The dentist’s office should also be willing to provide proof of training and certifications upon request.

What questions are important to ask when booking my first appointment?

Ask about the length of the initial consultation, what records or imaging may be needed, and how the practice coordinates care with insurance. Inquire about the typical wait time for appointments, the office’s policy on emergencies, and whether they offer flexible scheduling for follow‑up visits.
